She looks deadly, I'll never forget that battle. I tried to kill her, it was the most horrific thing I could do.

This is Aya as she appeared after being possessed by the Anti-Monitor.

To Idelacio: Great job! I was mad when they cancelled GL:TAS due to"poor toy sales!"

Nah, Pink makes sense (to a point) within thebounds of the character, but the others don't fit so well. Rage MAYBE but then thats when this version takes over I guess. Plus it would mean extra work! /o\

There was a toy line? O_o

I didn't think the series was amazing but it was still pretty decent with some strong high points and only a handful of bad lows. I just assumed teh cancellation came as a number of the themes weren't really suitable for younger kids, CN's demographic, which is problematic when the series focuses on those. Avatar gets that balance right while shows like Invader Zim get too skewed toward older audiences, somethign that CN wants to avoid sadly. They should just have a channel for older audiences. Oh wait, THEY DO! >.<

Part of the problem is that cartoons are still very much in the "animation ghetto" they've been stuck in since the 1960's or so and, in many ways, so are superheroes -- which compounds the problem. Until one or both of these eschews their "for children" stereotypes, we're going to to get watered-down "kid-friendly" series that have to try and hide their best elements! Why WB won't do a TV Series more in line with their DTV's -- e.g. Superman: Doomsday or, more recently, JLA: The Flashpoint Paradox -- is beyond me. There are about twenty DTV's at this point, so they're obviously selling well. Maybe they're just stupid.

Oddly... they don't sell as well as you'd think. Sales figures are available but rarely do these videos, Marvel or DC, make massive monies and never anything like the movies proper. Personally I find the quality of the animated movies wobbly: I really didn't like Doomsday and most of the Marvel movies hurt, but theres stuff DC Showcase (sans the crappy catwoman one) and Planet Hulk to name a couple so I'd say its worth it. It's not a big money making thing though and this stuff is only selling to existing fans so it's not like they are making converts.

I think the 90's batman series and, again, Avatar are examples of kid friendly cohabiting with deeper complexity, great family shows. But the bottom line is that CN is MAINLY a channel for younger audiences so if a show can't handle that balance properly it's not something thats going to appeal to the execs. Frankly when GL tried for the kid material it just came across as pretty dumb and the more complex stuff tended to be lumped so may have been less interesting for the kids. Teen Titans messed up the other way, being too goofy and losing out on depth, and by the time they fixed that the series was coming to its end. :-/

Did you see Hulk VS? That one was good, especially the Wolverine story (Thor's was okay).

Hulk vs Thor was mostly okay, the weak part of that one was Loki being a bit moronic, but nevertheless it was enjoyable. I liked how Banners time in 'hell' was shown as a real step up for him. Deadpool makes the Hulk vs Wolverine one frankly, turning it from an okay film to being genuinely fun.
